Welcome to Swim Club.
In Australia, a Country surrounded by water, many children learn to swim before they learn to walk! Swimming is a skill that everyone should learn. By choosing to send your child to a learn-to-swim programme, you are providing them with a skill not only for life but with a skill that could potentially save their life!
Penshurst R.S.L Youth Swim Club caters for children 4-25 years whose parents are members of Penshurst R.S.L. We are a community-based, family-oriented club that has operated for over 50 years. Our Club is run exclusively by volunteers, whether they are parents like yourself, senior swimmers, former swimmers or members of the local community. Your childs membership to our swim club focuses around your commitment to volunteer time at our Club.
We have an excellent reputation at both Learn-to-swim and Competition levels. We participate in RSL Zone and State Carnivals. We provide a consistently high standard of service to our members and our low operating costs and not-for-profit status enables us to offer an extremely reasonable lesson fee.
The main aim of our Club is to get your child to a stage of proficiency (in a safe and comfortable environment) whereby, if they found themselves in trouble whilst in the water, they could potentially save themselves.
Your child will learn to:
- Use survival techniques to get themselves to safety.
- Perform the necessary actions to alert others to the fact that they are experiencing difficulties.
- Float or keep their head above water until help arrives and finally to:
- Understand what (and what not) to do if someone near them is experiencing difficulties in the water.
Your child will participate in a variety of activities designed to assist them to become water confident. Safety first is our adage! Your obligation is to continue safe water practices at home, at the beach or pool and to encourage your child at all times!
Ultimately, if we can teach your child to be able to save themself in an emergency and to have fun whilst learning then we have achieved our goal & anything else they learn
along the way is a BONUS!
POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT at all times is paramount!
